Journalism Grandpa

When I entered Universidad de Chile, Gustavo Gonzalez was my first teacher. I still remember when I failed my first assignment with a 3.7, I hated him. Nonetheless, with time I had the pleasure of knowing one of the best persons and one of the finest educators that I have met in this university.

Sadly, for the new coming generations the professor retired early this year. González wrote a great book called “Caso Spiniak”. That book and his classes helped me realize how much I wanted to be a journalist.

We knew him as “Gugo”. In his retirement ceremony, students from every generation thanked him for his teachings. The most touching detail of that ceremony was when he broke into tears remembering the kind words expressed by one of his students, and also when he dedicated some verses for his loving wife.

Someday I would like to be remembered like he was, as a generous and kind person, an insightful teacher. People that in today’s world no longer exist.
